Windows operating system has included a hard disk partition management facilities, for example, in Windows XP by using right-click of My Computer and select Manage then go to the Disk Management.

However, the ability of these facilities are very limited
. It’s only able to remove and to form a partition. Another kind of ability to resize partitions (to form a new partition), copy partitions, sliding partitions, and the other does not exist
One alternative, we can use a free application called Partition Assistant. Here's an example how to use them
Run Partition Assistant. We can see some of these applicationsability by using  right click on a partition. The Capabilities are: resizing partitions, copying partitions, deleting partitions, formatting partitions (with FAT32 or NTFS file system), giving the label (name recognition) on the partition, remove the hard drive (all partitions), change the drive name partition, hide partition (if containing confidential data), the active set (for the operating system partition), and check the existence of bad sectors
The example in this article is how to resize a partition to form a new partition. Click the target partition (on the Disks). Below it (on the Move and Resize), click-hold on the circle icon at the end of the partition and sliding
Automatically, in the Disks will perform a new partition labeled the same size as unallocated space partition resizing the target
Right click on the unallocated partition and select Create labeled
In the Create Partition dialog box, type the name of the identifier (label) the new partition in the Partition Label. Select the file system to format the new partition in the File System. If you are finished, click the OK button
Click the Apply button at the top of the screen (ribbon menu) to apply the editing
We can also check the existence of bad sectors on the target partition through Disk menu> Surface Test or via right-click the target partition and select Check Partition
